The Road Back...... Biking with bikers & swimming with Swimmers!
It has been about 12 weeks since my injury to the tibialis posterior and everyday since the injury I have been grateful to fallback on my multi-sport back ground to maintain my fitness. I have made the decision to step away from training for the marathon distance for the foreseeable future. For many years I have ignored recovery in my running and know if I am going to make a full blown comeback at some point down the road- I know I need to put the high mileage running off to the side---The chronic high hamstring tendinopathy that I have been battling the past 6 months is a good reminder that there is no need to go and run 80 mpw at this point in the game!
So what have I been doing in those 12 weeks? .....Well first, I have refocused my training & goals to get back in the mix on the triathlon scene. It has been a little over 4 years since I have put on my wetsuit and raced in a triathlon. In 2015, I plan on sticking with the short stuff a few sprints and maybe 1 or 2 OLY's. Based upon my recovery I think I should be able to do some sort of racing come mid to late July....
As for my training, an old coach of mine used to say----if you want to get good at triathlon....Bike with bikers, swim with swimmers and run with runners.... As for the biking, I have been riding with a great group of riders over on the seacoast and swimming with some former collegiate swimmers up in the lakes region...
It is an EVOLUTION baby and I am excited to see what the future holds!!!!
